Extension to charging cable

Is it possible to get and extension cable to extend my granny cable, but also, if necessary, to extend the cable on my tethered home charger. Such extension cables seem to exist, but I haven't been able to find one to buy. Has anyone used one, and has anyone any ideas about where I might get one?

It might be better to buy a new granny charger with the length you need. Car branded granny chargers are safer as they typically have an extra safety temperature sensor in the plug while non car branded ones do not.

Well I don't have much slack in my tethered charger. It gets to my car, but might not reach one that is on the opposite side of car.

This extension option would be cheaper than a new unit. I looked into rewiring a longer tethered cable and it's not really done.

Don't extend the granny cable, that way means you lose all the safety and heat detection

Those (modified) type2 to (standard) type2 extensions work well. I have a 10m extension, which was, back in the day anyway, referred to as the icebreaker

For the Granny cable you can buy a high quality extension lead or just make one yourself. I made one with cable and external waterproof socket and it only took an hour or so, will post a pic later….

Extending the granny cable is my immediate problem, so I might go this route. Extending my tethered cable from my home charger is something I'm thinking of down the line, if I change the car.

Just bear in mind that the longer the cable, the more transmission losses you will suffer and the more power it will take for a charge.

Yes, very important, you have to remember this isnt a TV or a phone you're plugging in, its the equivalent of running a kettle non stop.

You may find that the plug on the GC is bigger than normal, mine is, so a bigger IP rated box required for the socket

Exactly, that's how I ended up with a lump on the end of my cable, it's a large single external socket in order to accommodate the Tesla moulded plug. Tried all the ones on AMZ and Screwfix but ended up at local electrical shop trying them all out at the counter, a double was not that much more expensive but I'd just be tempted to use it when DIY'ing so instead went for single and it lives in the car for weekends away/AirBnB etc, Cost €42 so virtually paid for itself on a long weekend away where we charged at rented place and had no public charging, no way a Granny cable would have been long enough
