Letter from DSP over JSA claim

Hi

I had a short stint on JSA at the start of the year, I got off after I started full time work. Admittedly it was 3 days after I started work, it has been 8 months since I signed off now and I'm getting a letter about potential overpayment.

I know I made a mistake but my job didn't pay me for over a month (it was eventually backdated) and I couldn't commute without keeping my claim into the next day it was paid into my account.

Is it just something I can pay back or what's the deal now?

Yea. It’s nothing. Even if you don’t pay it, they’ll just leave it on your file and it’ll be deducted from any arrears if you’re on Jobseekers ever again. Wouldn’t stress over 3 days.

As above if you are to apply for a payment in the future while the debt is outstanding they’ll just deduct from your payment until it’s paid (or any arrears).

So you can pay now or pay (maybe) in future. I suggest doing it now just to avoid deductions from any future payments which may cause hardship.

Thanks, was worried I was about to get a court summons over a few days lol.

Will I just get another letter with the payment information or do you know if I can just do it online right now? This one just says to reply in 14 days if I have issue with it.

100% this, pay it now, if you need to go back onto it in the future it could be delayed while they investigate.

No, you definitely won’t be getting one of those!

Wait until they tell you the amount owed. They might (unlikely but you never know) even decide it’s not worth the effort on their behalf and you’ll never hear a word!
