Buying a backup scrap car for parts

    Hi,

    I've recently bught a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder.

I've found a used 2006 Pathfinder with a failed chassis for sale for parts, but I'm struggling to find how to check compatibility with mine?

Wikipedia shows the different model upgrades but seems more focused on the U.S. versions which are totally different.

Is there an easy way to check? My first issue is the turbo (bought it with turbo issue) so I want to check if that's compatible before I buy the scrap car.

    Thanks for your help!

Look and see if the part numbers for replacement turbos are the same for each vehicle. Have a look at chassis and engine parts also, and get onto a Nissan forum.

It's handy if you are doing a resto or something but for a general car it's not worth it. The effort to remove 2 turbochargers only to refit one second turbo is crazy.

Get a reconditioned unit imo and fit that

Thanks, but putting in a reconditioned one still involves one removal and one install, is it really not worth saving a bit for the hassle of 3 jobs instead of 2?

Thanks, yeah I don't currently have access to see the parts number unfortunately so I was hoping there would be a way to check with year of production. Good idea to find a nissan forum though

Not to refit an unknown turbo thats 15+ years old its not.

That 3rd Gen 04+ Pathfinder didn't get it's facelift in Europe until 2010 so an 06 & 08 should be more or less the same. You main concern is if it's got the same engine, most Irish ones had the 2.5 Diesel so I think you'll be fine. Ask the seller to send you photos if you want to confirm without seeing.

I'd agree with the above that depending on a 2nd hand 06 turbo to be in perfect condition is optimistic. At least with a rebuild you know it's 100%. Have you priced around a rebuild? If you're supplying the Turbo to repair or exchange, it shouldn't be crazy expensive.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Thanks, yes defniitely same 2.5 engine, I've gone with it now, think it's pretty worth it for the almost new tyres alone. Plus I'll take the leather seats, and should get a few years outr of other parts. Mileage is low too on the engine.

Fair enough yes, I just figured a free (kinda) turbo is better as it's the same as buying a used car without the turbo problem (except for the labour cost) , but I've gone with reconditioned now, €300 plus labour. Will be nice to just have it sorted.
