Firebird Thermostat issue

    Hey all,

I noticed the past few nights the oil boiler (Firebird C35) was not switching off.

We have Tado controller and rad valves in place so at first thought that was the cause.

Only way to stop the boiler was to switch off the power, as soon as power is restored the boiler immediatley turns on.

Reset the thermostat but no affect but when I turn the thermostat all the way down on the bolider its switches off.

Turn it up slightely and it turns on again.

Am I looking at a faulty thermostat?

Dont want to waste my time if it could be something I need a plumber for.

Are your rads getting scalding hot to touch? C35 puts out a lot of heat. If faulty boiler stat then above will be obvious.

How many zones do you have?

Just noticed that you mentioned rad valves, smart or thermostatic? Those would prevent rads getting too hot, but if boiler not turning off, heat has to be going somewhere 🤔

    Sorry Yado smart valves.

There seem to be 4 of them that don't shut off properly and those rads do get scalding hot

sounds very like a thermostat issue

what age is boiler as i have seen quite a few stats on firebirds fail to trip the high limit stat as well

these stats wer white in colour and from about 4/5 years ago with the firebird name on them

At this stage, I'd agree with Jimf.

Jimf that's exactly the one, the boiler is about 6 years old.

    Any recommendations for a replacement?

the range on the stat wont be this high and will have no temp markings

the range will be 60/80 i posted above just for photo

Does Tado not have a boiler interlock? That might be the first place to look, as if there isn’t a demand for heat in the house, why is there power to the boiler at all?

A C35 with faulty stats running just 4 radiators would be into an overheat situation quite quickly, and the evidence of this is rather limited - really just unusually long boiler run time?

regardless of run time the stat should still kill the burner

and if run stat goes faulty hi limit stat should lock it out

if power at boiler without heat call in house could be frost stat or stuck motorised valve

faulty frost stat.motorised valve or tado controller.

when you turn down the stat and the boiler turns off there is still power going to the boiler. So the question is why is there still power going to the boiler.

The stat should never really be set past halfway i.e 75 degrees

That's right Declan, the second power is switched on even before the Tado can start up the pump starts running on the boiler.

Going to have a look at that first

Hey all just wanted to update for anyone else coming across this.

Turns out the Tado controller is in full meltdown, lights flashing across the board and so they are gonna replace it.

Seeing other report the same thing on Tado forums.
