Ice block in Nordmende integrated freezer

We noticed an ice block after breaking the top plastic internal surround of our freezer. There is a block of solid ice behind the plastic. It is defrosting fine and the door seal is good so what might be causing this? TIA.

from the pic you have up it looks like a frost free unit ,if so plug it out to defrost manually.

Have done that and it is working fine with what sounds like fans running again but what is to stop this happening again as yes it is supposed to be frost free.

One of two things caused the malfunction, someone left the door partially ajar or it has a faulty defrost element
