Sky Fibre Broadband (FTTH) with Google Nest Wifi

    Hi all,

    We are moving from Virgin Media (standard 500mb/s) to Sky (Fibre 1gb/s). We were using VM BB via the Google Nest Wifi mesh system with absolutely no drop offs in speed. However since moving to Sky, we are getting drop offs from the ~700mb/s that's being provided from Sky Hub, down to <100mb/s at the endpoints (either via WiFi or ethernet). Nothing has changed in the environment other than replacing normal VM BB with Sky FTTH BB. The current setup is Fibre>ONT Box>Sky Hub>Nest WiFi Router.

    From looking online it appears to be an issue caused by a double NAT. You can't put the Sky Hub into Bridge/Modem-only mode, so I have 2 routers essentially.

    2 questions;

    Q1. Has anyone managed to fix this?

    Q2. If not, is there any other FTTH provider that Nest WiFi will work with?

    Thanks in advance!

    Which wholesale network are you on? OpenEir or SIRO or NBI?

    Can the Nest WiFi handle VLAN tagging? If so, you could possibly remove the Sky Router totally unless you have the phone service too.

    We're on Sky via Virgin Media fibre network. The Nest can handle VLAN tagging now I believe... but I think the tricky issue is authenticating off the ONT box?

    EDIT: we don't use the phone service

    Not sure about the authentication details for the VM network but for OpenEir its anythingrandmon@skydsl/anythingrandom

    VLAN ID = 10

    Yo could always check the Sky router and it may give you some idea as to whether the above would work or not.

    Yes. These settings should work on sky over virgin FTTH

    if you have to use the Sky hub. You should also login to it and disable both 2.4 and 5ghz radios if you are using the nest for everything WiFi
