I have a property where I stay in every 10 days or so for a night or 2.Should I have heating on for an hour a day during winter? It's an old cottage which has been renovated.

It is really hard to say. Id buy one of those humidity sensors. They cost about a tenner. Study relative humidity. Check if the cottage needs a french drain.
