Kitchen lever mixer tap leaking under the lever when pulled

The kitchen sink has a one hole tap. It's a lever mixer tap.

For the past few months there's a leak coming from under the lever when the tap is turned on. This is creating a flood onto the sink and onto the counter top.

This is happening in my mother home and she has refused to address it. I am anxious that maybe it might become too much of its left any longer.

I tried to book two plumbers. They were both no shows.

Do I keep going at trying to get a plumber to fix this?

Or will I try replacing the tap myself?

My plumbing knowledge is extremely limited.

I casually learned about female and male threads this summer and plumbers tape and O rings.

There are youtube videos online showing how to turn off the water, disconnect the old tap, and install a new tap.

Do you think I could try this job myself with the videos.

I ordered a tap online from Amazon because that has the quickest delivery. It's a one hole, mixer tap.

It's a nightmare trying to get anyone.
