Instrument damage

    Hi all, just wondering if anyone can advise: an instrument badly damaged, caused by an extremely intoxicated customer at a pub gig.... had anyone had to deal with this before? Any success getting the intoxicated person to admit liability, or is it worth it?

    Coming at it from the point of view of someone involved on the organiser/venue side of things, we would have insurance for that. However, in ten years, we've had just two incidents (one "our" fault, one not at all). In both cases, the Big Bosses decided it would be quicker and easier to foot the bill for the repair on a "no prejudice" basis, to do a deal directly with the craftsman charged with the repair and not bother claiming on the insurance.

    I reckon you would have next to no chance of getting the intoxicated customer to pay for it, but depending on what kind of written arrangement you had with the venue, there might be some scope for negotiation there.
