Anybody else find "Howdy Stranger" cringeworthy?

Hi, unlike other sites discussion that I use, Boards logs me out regularly — so that if I want to thank or comment I need to sign in first. That wouldn't bother me massively except for the message "Howdy Stranger, looks like you're new around here" prompting me to log in. It reminds me of those Country & Western singers…

Hi, unlike other sites discussion that I use, Boards logs me out regularly — so that if I want to thank or comment I need to sign in first.
That wouldn't bother me massively except for the message "Howdy Stranger, looks like you're new around here" prompting me to log in.
It reminds me of those Country & Western singers with a cowboy y hat tipped over one eye (who've never been near a cow) or the kind of lingo that gets used by American CB radio truckers.
I've been suffering it in silence for ages. Anyone else think it's cringey?
