    Hi,

Bought house recently 20 years old and kept extremely well by previous owners.

never used heating til Thursday morning

Yesterday evening the heating had been on loads coz kids coming over and wanted it cosy for them.

last night suddenly there was a humming/vibration that appeared to come from attic but reverberated through house.

I immediately turned off the heating and I discovered a tap was literally vibrating in my hand when i tried to turn it

I ran downstairs and turned on the downstairs bathroom tap (not sure if hot or cold) and instantly the buzzing noise stopped.

Water BOILING hot feom hot taps, ran them all for 30 mins before it calmed down.

Oil central heating. Very worried and useless at plumbing.

Do i need a plumber here people? Is it likely a massive problem?

    thanks in advance

Thermostat on boiler turned up way too high or not working. See if you can find a manual for the boiler online and see if you can adjust it(usually a knob on the outside on older boilers). Also suspect room thermostat(s) not working.

This is probably a simple enough problem.

Make sure your immersion heater is turned off. Check your electricity meter to make sure that its switching off properly.

Call a plumber and explain what's happening. Seeing as it coincided with turning heating on, it's more than likely not the immersion.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

Ok, thanks both. And yes immersion off. Really appreciate it, glad it’s not a biggie so. Thank you
