    Hi all,

Wiesmann 30KW boiler stopped working and was displaying FF fault.

I tried multiple resets but it wouldn’t start.

Phoned a heating company and they confirmed it needed a new PCB.

Im getting charged €119 for the call out and then €450 for the PCB supply and fit.

Is this reasonable and to be expected or am I getting shafted here?

It's not reasonable but it is to be expected

    Ok.

I imagine PCB= programmable circuit board, so it’s the brains of the boiler.

How much do these cost wholesale from a supplier I wonder and that way I’d know how much of a markup the heating company make.

Like I’m charged €119 for the call out and it was an easy enough diagnosis (the engineer wasn’t there long) and €119 is fair enough as the engineer doesn’t know what he’s walking in to, but I presume the PCB is plug and play so the labour costs shouldn’t be too high?

    Looks fair price IMO.

Quick search online shows price & fitting of £300 a few years ago.

Refurbished PCBs are available for cheaper but you pay for new part, certified install & warranty.

Why don’t you get a price from other installers?

its definitely a reasonable price to pay.He has to source the part,go to your house, fit the part, set the PCB for your boiler,do a safety check on the boiler, issue a gas gas cert, pay VAT on the job, while also covering a warranty on the part he’s fitted.

When you take this into account it’s not bad

He probably isn’t making a fortune out of it. But €570 would be very much on the upper end of what it worth spending repairing a gas boiler in my view.

    How old is it?

Is it a combi boiler ?

No it’s a gas condensing boiler with 3 zones on it.

    Its about 11 years old.
