Is/how is declaration of previous gifts checked

    I'm not thinking of making any kind of false declaration, this thought just occurred to me as I am a party to a will at the moment.

    When a beneficiary of a will is asked to declare for tax purposes any previous gifts or inheritance, how is this checked?

    Do revenue go through the accounts of the testator?
