We have oil central heating. And water immersion.

Looking to change to smart system.

My understanding is that if I get the hive system to control heat, it will heat the water. So perfect for the winter months.

If I only want to switch the hot water on via thermostat switch on boiler, I would need to buy a smart thermostat plug?

Most smart thermostats will suit you. You will need to fit in a water zone. Also while you are at it you could split the heating to upstairs and downstairs zones. I think there is still a grant available for splitting the zones and installation of the smart thermostat

I hadn't thought of it until until I saw it asked on the HA forum

If you put a wireless/battery rad valve on each rad ,each rad should effectively become a zone or you can group them to make a larger zone probably using individual room stats or central stats I assume

Always thought you had to rejig the plumbing system where it wasn't zoned
