Have a party this weekend. Looking for recommendation for the smoothest Gin I could buy for the girl croud?

Also would it go well with sodas rather than Tonic Water? Or any other suggestions?

Not sure what you mean by smooth. Bland? Try Gordon's.

Re: smooth do you mean one less heavy on the botanicals?

For alternative mixers to tonic there is a gin rickey which uses soda water and lime.

Gin and bitter lemon is another option.

Gunpowder Gin isn't as sharp as some other gins, it's my personal favourite

Brockmans is on the sweeter end. Goes brilliantly with ginger ale.

Bombay sapphire with fever tree elderflower or Schweppes pink soda, a favourite of mine.

Monkey 47 is one of the smoothest gins I've tried, it is expensive however. I believe supervalu may have a deal on Gunpowder Gin which is nice

If people don't like tonic ( you cant get some nice fever tree ones - they have elderflower flavours that can be nice)

I have friends that like drinking gin with bitter lemon or a fanta lemon - bit more refreshing

Gin, ginger & lime is nice as an alternative.

Find a gin with 37.5% alcohol. That will be the "smoothest".

Drumshanbo's Gunpowder gin and the Dingle gin always go down well.

I've been curious about the Method & Madness gin recently - is it worth the price? Seems to be up around the €52-€55 mark now.

I wouldn't call Gunpowder smooth! I'd call it explosive, very flavoursome and a distinctive strong gin.

For the what I'd understand as smoothest (easiest to drink, less taste, not a strong alcohol taste and toned down botanicals) I'd go for Hendricks or Bombay.

Micil Gin is amazing - very smooth and Irish owned.

Smoothest -> (easiest to drink, less taste, not a strong alcohol taste and toned down botanicals)

Would Fanta / Club Orange / Sprite etc go well with Gin? It should be sweeter.

    Thanks...

Maybe ask your guests in advance what gins they'd usually order for themselves?

Why drink gin at all if they want less taste and toned down botanicals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭TestLink

    What alternative is there? Vodka?

They dont want a strong alchohol taste , should be easier to drink and sweet.

This is the first time they would be trying this. Usually they go for Smirnoff Ice / Cocktails in a can with sweet pineapple / passion fruit flavour.

That is why I am bit confused whether they would like it if I go for Gin!

    What about Vodka then?

I honestly think, if they're not gin drinkers, you should stick with what they like.

I dont drink spirits myself - Only beer. So no idea how Gin would go with the girls!

    Vodka might be safer bet.

And a range of different mixers of the sort noted above eg elderflower.

Vodka can be paired with tonic also.

Could also consider cranberry juice and some fresh fruit juices eg orange or 'tropical'.

    Have lots of ice ready.

Lemon and limes to cut and garnish.

Another idea for mixers is these premixed blends - just add vodka. I havent used them myself but I expect end result will come out similar to the premixed cans but should be a lot cheaper.

    Many Thanks for the advice.

Which Vodka would you suggest considering my requirement - Not one with strong alchohol taste & should be easier to drink?

    Absolut? or something else?

I think with the mixers Id be surprised if any differences would come through. The mixers will be driving how easy it will be to drink.

Ketel One is on offer at 25e in Tesco at the moment, have never had any complaints about it.

    Ha'penny

    Bulldog

    Plymouth

    Gunpowder

These four don't really taste much like most harsher gins, the ha'penny in particular is lovely. For mixers, fever tree elderflower is probably the best, but maybe get a couple of different types if you're not sure about their preferences. If going with anything else, 7up/sprite/white lemonade works well. I like red lemonade with some gins, but not others. Ginger ale and lime is a good shout from earlier in the thread. Stay away from coke, although I know someone who drinks their gin with Dr Pepper, not mad on it myself.

This is my favorite, I advise everyone to try it
