Infrared heating panels for a room 5m x 4m?

    Hi,

Im finding it hard to find a solution of heating up a garden cabin office 5m x 4m and 3m in height. The cabin is fully insulated, floor, walls and ceiling and has double glazing but is a b1tch to heat on the cold mornings as it costs a small fortune to have an oil heater on.

I see infrared heaters are cheaper to run and not too expensive to purchase, but has anyone any experience of them, are they any good?

Ideally Id like PV solar panels on the roof and to hook them up to a battery and use the saved power as the source of power for the oil heater, but that solution costs thousands.

I've heard mixed reviews on infer red panels. My sister has some since last year. She uses the alongside regular rads. She thinks they help. I've seen others rip out the panels after a year or two stating they were useless.

They don't heat up the room as such. They heat up the furniture in the room and heat up your body.

A mini split heat pump is about the cheapest way to heat the room. It is also an AC system for the warm months. You might get a mini split system for one room for around €2000 supplied & fitted

Heat is heat. And it's a large space. So an infrared heater won't be better than any other heater.

That said I have one in a much smaller WFH room and it's perfect. But won't suit everyone. Needs to point at you. Means the room temp can be lower and you're warm.

But if you point it facing you, your back will be cold. Exactly like standing in the sun on a cold day. Part facing the sun is warm.

If you move around the room a lot, it's the wrong heater for you.

I think they should be attached to the ceiling. Interested also, I think it is the same type of heat you find in smoking areas and patios and the like. Very effective in these applications, no experience in domestic infa-red.
