    Couple of questions first.

Are you learning to drive or have you a full license?

Have you gotten any insurance quotes? First time insurance can be very expensive on certain cars

How much will you be driving? Commuting to work, distance? Long journeys at the weekend etc?

    Size requirements? Dogs, kids etc.

    Also, welcome to boards.ie

Don't buy a diesel as your first car. To many potential engine issues. Missed service on a petrol will be less critical to good running. Diesels at that age/milage are likely to have DPF and/or CAT issues.

Buy a small engined car, 1.3l petrol max.

Go for a low trim level as high spec trim will have lots of bits to go wrong which will be expensive to put right.

Of the two the KIA would be my choice but keep looking.

In today's market, your tiny budget will only stretch to absolute shite at a dealer.

A 300,000 mile (km?) car will require major jobs either straight away or in the near future.
