Using box dye in your own hair? Developer volume?

Apparently frown upon, but just a practical necessity for some.
Question being
Any idea what the developer volume is with this dye?
Cause apparently box dye tend to be on the high side, but of course lower volume developer is preferable.
Thoughts?
In physics we trust....
