Cross country running for children

My 2 children are doing their first cross country run today, they are aged 8 and 9. They do not have spikes. What would be the best alternative footwear - standard runners, Astro boots or even football boots (mouldies)?

Mine runs in his footy boots, helps with grip.

Another option would be to stick a message up on the club's WhatsApp group if you're on it... there would usually be plenty of spares floating around as kids would outgrow different sizes fairly quickly, and usually happy to lend a pair.
