Toppings up heating circuit

    hi

Im replacing a rad in my heating system and was wondering how to top up the circuit from the mains once I fit the new rad and fill with the existing water in the system.

I have an Riello oil burner and large WST in the loft. No expansion vessels.

New house and Ive only ever lived in properties with a gas combi boiler with mains water feed (no header tank). Was easy with these systems to just open the filling loop connected to the combi and repressurise.

How does it work with these oil burner systems with the water tank? Icant see any water feeds at all into the burner. Its in a cabinet in garden.

house is in an estate in Mayo, 20 years old, if thats any help.

    thanks

You should also have a much smaller (Feed&Expansion) tank in the attic. If you can/are changing the rad without drain down then you probably don't have to do anything but just check if there is a isolating valve (and its open) on the mains feed to the ballcock in this tank. If you have to drain down the whole system then first shut this isolating valve, if none (more than likely) installed then tie up the ballcock to prevent it filling the tank.
