Repairing Crown/Cap of chimney

    Hi all

    Interested to hear the views of how I would seal off the crown of my chimney stack. Recently checked it and found cracks around the chimney pots spreading out which is allowing water to seep into the chimney stack. Thanks for attention.

    Hi, I would be interested in the same.

    I have heard of people using Tek7 https://tec7.ie/product/tec7-sealant-310ml-white/ to repair small cracks.

    I was wondering would something like Bostik Flexacryl https://www.screwfix.ie/p/bostik-roof-repair-compound-grey-1kg/10990 be more suitable for painting all over the crown?

    Thanks for your attention. An interesting product going to check into it further, it may help to seal the cracks and prevent the water leaking into the stack.

    A chimney stack is highly exposed to frost, rain and wind and a product such as tec7 is only a temporary repair patch, it's unlikely to last for long up there given the freeze-thaw action at that level. A more permanent solution should be sought such as completely resealing or replacing the top-cap and also reviewing the mortar/render and flashing while you're up there.
