Electric central heating - Radiators/ Storage heaters

    Hi all,

Im currently in the planning process for a house and am exploring heating options for the house.

I am wondering has anybody out there got modern electric radiators /Storage heaters as their central heating systems?

Can I legally use this system as the main central heating system in my home?

I agree the cost of electricity is high and can fluctuate, however I love the simplicity, control, ease of installation.there is also an option if modern storage heaters being charged on night rate.

With houses so well insulated these days and a High BER rating required my thinking is that little heat should keep the house warm.

I intend building a 1500sqft bungalow getting sun from morning to evening with plenty solar gain. Also intend to have a stove.

Yes the price of electricity is the deal breaker, however I'm not convinced by geo thermal and air to water over complicated and often unreliable systems, I have heard they can often use quite alot of electricity also.

I am absolutelty open to correction but am mainly just trying to find out more about elec Rads

If anyone would have any information it would be much appreciated

    Thanks

If you want to use electric rads as your main heating source then your water heating will also be from electricity. As your space heating and hot water efficiency will be 100% as opposed to 250-300% with a heat pump it will be costly. In order to meet Part L requirements you will need a lot of PV panels if using electricity. The reason some peoples bills are excessive with heat pumps are down to a few factors; poor airtightness, bad thermal bridging details, heat pump not designed, installed and commissioned correctly. In other words no attention to detail from start to finish.

Similar query and I'm jumping on the thread here, but you mention that poor quality building and installation are the root causes of high electricity bills, but realistically what are the odds that a non-expert self-builder will get all of these 100% correct during construction? Very low I'd wager.

Secondly, even with perfect construction and installation, what are people's annual bills coming out as?

So many people singing the praises of A2W, saying they have this lovely consistent temperature all year round, which would cost a fortune to do with oil, but who in their right mind would have their boiler going full belt while sitting in t-shirt and shorts?

Thanks for that I had thought as much. Can't seem to Settle for the heat pump system but definitely will have to have it as a possible option. There's no doubt I'd they are set up right they are efficient, my issue is more reliability over time.

    But thanks again
