I'm reasonable diy mechanic and used to do all my own servicing on my cars.

fell away from doing it around 2009 mark just because job/family/domestics etc.

recently I sent up the family car as usual to someone I trust, few bits to be done and the bill was horrific. breaking it down I can see that parts have gone north for sure but also the labour costs are obscene (lookit before anyone gets offended it I get it I understand it I really do but it doesn't mean I have to sit back and not do anything about it if I have the skills to do the work myself) SO I want to start doing my own again.

across my own household and wider family there's 5x VW's of various shapes 2010-->2019 era and 2x BMW motorbikes

I'm not up to speed on latest tech, I want to be able to diagnose events log and reset the service log after the service

looking for sensibl€ suggestions please new, secondhand etc. ta

Launch have a diagnostic computer for around €200.

Or you can get copyright Vagcom software from Adverts for around €30 or so.

    Both work fine.

OBDEleven does BMW and VW, I’ve used it for coding on VWs and Skodas
