    Hi all

Hope this is in the right section. I'm looking to build a steel garage for my 2 classic cars and a bit of room to work on them in the same shed. I have a single garage for storing all the garden furniture and equipment so none of that will be stored in the new shed.

I was thinking along the line of 8mx6m or at a stretch 9mx6m. 1 roller door and a pedestrian door also.

Looking to see if people who have built a double garage if this is big enough for what I want. I can't really go much bigger than the above measurements as it has to fit in a certain area on our site.

Pic of a similar design attached

Thanks for any and all input

Depends on the cars. An XJ220 and a Bentley are going to need more space than a Triumph and an LCC Rocket.

I had a ~6x5m (LxW) garage in which I kept a Caterham and an MX5. When I was working on the Caterham I'd park the MX5 outside.

Do a plan and figure out e.g. if you'll need clearance for a trolley jack or whatever.

You'll obviously need a full width door, and planning permission 😀

Mk2 escort and a wide arch Manta.

Have a scissors lift which one car will be parked over so no need for trolley jack etc.

Plan is enough room to have them parked and then just a decent workbench, like you say can pull one out when working on the other.

    Thanks 👍

Afaik metal sheds tend to get condensation inside them. Which you might not want for rust. So worth asking whoever is quoting you how to address that or if it’s a thing with their design. I think insulation helps which won’t be needed for a storage shed. So it’s an added cost to factor in.

If you wanted, you'd get a lot of storage up high on the walls. That’s perfect for less heavy stuff or the less seldom used stuff. Just leave space for the scissor lift to go up. Loads of good Youtube videos on adding strong wall storage to American style garages (which you’ll have with this type of setup). Adding that storage is DIY-able and means the useable space is higher. I know you said you've another shed for garden stuff.

Yeah was thinking of going for insulated panels instead of steel cladding but will look into maybe insulating it internally myself afterwards either. All in the planning stage at the moment anyways thanks for the info

Ah I'm aware of the rules and regs that's not a bother. I'm just after advice from people who may have built a similar size and if there's enough space that's all

I have an 8.5 x 6 m garage, 3 foot poured concrete wall and the steel cladding. Would easily fit 4 cars. I can fit a ford focus with a twin axle trailer on the hitch with lots of space either end to move about and close the roller. No problems with condensation, but it is well ventilated. my roller is 4.2 meters wide.
