Question on timings

    my mother in law died in ICU on Sunday evening.

    a post-mortem has to be done today (Monday) at some stage.

    With the post mortem in the loop, when do you reckon the (1) removal (2) burial would be?

    would it be Wednesday/Thursday?

    Sorry for your loss.

    The family will probably meet a funeral director tomorrow and discuss arrangements.

    The directors will most likely be able to collect your mother-in-law from the hospital by tomorrow evening.

    Exact arrangements after that will depend on how soon the family want things to happen, and how busy the funeral directors and church are (if there are funerals arranged already).

    Based on my own experience losing a parent in hospital some years ago, he died in the early hours of Tuesday morning, was collected by the funeral directors on Tuesday and we had the funeral on Thursday. There was no PM in his case.

    Wednesday into Thursday sounds about right, although it might be possible for a removal on Tuesday and funeral on Wednesday.

    do you think it could be Thursday/Friday at all?

    or is that just way too late?

    Family member died on a Thursday evening. Taken to the nearest city that night/next morning for PM. Made contact with our funeral director the next morning who contacted the hospital and let us know we wouldn’t have the body back until Saturday as there was a queue. Funeral director collected the body Saturday. Had a small rosary Saturday night, wake Sunday afternoon/evening and burial Monday.

    It could vary and you/your family will have their own preferences for the service. Any decent funeral director will walk you through it and your options.

    Sorry for your loss, OP.

    As others have said, the funeral director will guide you through everything. Sometimes a funeral may be slightly delayed for a variety of reasons eg family having to travel home from abroad or whatever. So there's no hard and fast rule about the funeral taking place immediately. It will vary, in whatever the circumstances are.

    It will depend on the family. Sometimes if the family are waiting for someone to travel home the funeral might be delayed by a day or two.

    My friend died overnight on a Friday night/Saturday morning and between one thing and another the funeral wasn't until Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
