Have a renovation project and these fittings are used on qualplex for the radiator heating: the ones I have are light tan/brown but look the same.

Can they be opened like an instantor fitting?

    Are there special tools?

    Thanks as always

Thanks, that which looks like a mouth guard!, is for the tectite fittings, it squeezes in the green piece, releasing the inward facing teeth

that hold the pipe in place

They are Acorn fittings, which were very popular in the 2000's.

Also came with Acorn pipes which were grey plastic/pex pipes and inserts which were grey steel not plastic but the Acorn pipes were slightly narrower than Qualpex and copper and was a nightmare if used Qualpex or Tectite inserts instead of the Acorn inserts which were tiny bit wider than the Acorn inserts. However if don't have the Acorn or now Hep2o inserts can use other thinner copper inserts. Bit of history there!

Made by Wavin which have updated it and renamed Hep2o (pronounced Hep two o - that an "o" not zero). The Hep2o are now push-fit and are white and made of plastic aswell as Hep2o pex pipes which are also white.

The Acorn were around from memory late 90s until mid or so 2000's and we're slightly changed with a white nut onto the grey body then Hep2o came out about mid/end 2000's or thereabouts don't when remember exactly but it's very convenient to use compared to tectite. Tectite fittings came out after Hep2o and everyone thinks they're the best thing since sliced bread but Hep2o and Acorn were around for years earlier.

Acorn/Hep2o not very popular or widely available in Dublin but very available in the rest of the country.

The Acorn as per Op photo come apart exactly like Dathi's 2nd photo showed and are hand tightened with all the parts showed.
