Wired Video Doorbell for Security

Hi,

Based on a recent attempt to steal a car from my driveway, I am considering getting a wired video doorbell.

I have an existing (mechanical) chime which ideally would continue to work with the doorbell. I don't know the specifics but existing wiring powers the light around the existing doorbell if that helps.

Based on what I am looking for, I think that potentially leaves me with either Ring Pro 2 or Nest?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a wired video doorbell they've used and any electrician they've used for install at a reasonable price?

Appreciate any recommendations (please feel free to DM me re contractors). Thanks!

You don't need an electrician if you have an existing wired chime. Simple to connect up a wired Ring and it works great!

I got a Blink video door bell recently and connected it to original chime, works perfectly and works with Alexa too.

Yeah, I bought mine direct from them tho - they have both wired (for existing systems or use a POE injector if router not capable of it) and wifi versions

I use the Eufy 2k Video Doorbell, powered from the existing doorbell wiring. I like the fact that the video clips are stored locally and the video quality is excellent.

I don't consider the lack of facial recognition a drawback. There is lots of evidence of that feature being misused. In general Ring has a poor track record with managing cloud based recordings.

My only gripe is that additional cameras regularly get discounts in the UK, but not in Ireland.

The one I got was without the sync 2 part - I didn't need that. I can see and answer from my phones or Alexa.

Another option is the unifi doorbell. It integrates fully with the existing chime. It communicates over wifi. It needs 16v rather than the standard 12v but a new transformer is included in the box. Other hardware is required if this is your only camera. If you want to put in multiple cameras, Unifi makes more financial sense. All the recordings are stored on a recorder box in the house and there are no recurring fees.

I got this one. Bought is during prime day for €100.

used the existing wiring and doorbell power supply (with minor wiring change).

it has an sd card slot, and can log to a reolink NAS or rspt streams.

would buy it again.
