Really looking forward to this myself. Hoping I'll get to see as much as possible. US favourites from a world ranking perspective, but hopefully a few of the european star performers and home advantage can swing it for Europe once again.

    US Team(world ranking) ::

    Lilia Vu(2), Nelly Korda(3), Allisen Corpuz(9), Megan Khang(14), Lexi Thompson(26), Jennifer Kupcho(29), Ally Ewing(31), Rose Zhang(32), Angel Yin(33), Danielle Kang(34), Andrea Lee(38), Cheyenne Knight(49)

    Europe Team(world ranking) ::

    Celine Boutier(5), Charley Hull(8), Linn Grant(15), Georgia Hall(17), Leona Maguire(18), Carlota Ciganda(28), Maja Stark(40), Anna Nordqvist (42), Madelene Sagstrom (46), Gemma Dryburgh(55), Caroline Hedwall (121), Emily Kristine Pedersen (122)

Europe playing 7 of their 8 lowest ranked players in the foursomes tomorrow.

US not playing their world number 2 in the foursomes

Some good matches in the morning. Interesting Lexi Thompson is out first. Playing way below her normal standards this year. Definitely better form players sitting it out.

I think (hope) Europe have the edge. Some players like boutier and hull going very well this summer and home advantage might push it just enough.

Looking forward to this , on paper this competition should be a lot more evenly matched than the Ryder cup , US team have a slight advantage in world rankings, probably nullified by home advantage for Europe so should be a right battle I think.

Hoping Europe will get it done as they have shown to be the stronger "team" over last few years, Americans seem to be struggle with the individual vs team aspect still in Solheim cup - something they seem to have unfortunately rectified in the Ryder cup

Looking forward to this. I've heard the first hole is a driveable par 4 with water at the front so that could be interesting. Surprised no Rose Zhang out for the US in the morning. Also considering Lexi has been poor and barely played recently I'm amazed she's being put out in foursomes.

Re Lexi. The likes of Poulter & Garcia often were in no form heading to the Ryder Cup. I think she will be well up for this

Some of the early golf is very poor, especially around the greens.

Maybe it's down to foursomes, but lot of fluffed chips and putts raced by when teams in strong positions

    Getting trounced so far

Wow Europe getting some roasting this morning!

Jesus that was rough. Was expecting them to salvage something out of it even half way through the morning but 4-0.... need to win the afternoon really. Even a 2-2 would be rough going into tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,939 ✭✭✭Russman

Yep, I really thought Europe would win the contest (I guess they still might) fairly handily, but wow. Never seen so much nervy play from Europe.

Something very unenjoyable about the course

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Yeah, lovely course. Hyper aggressive putting going on.

I know they're generally more aggressive in team matchplay, but they're hitting some of them so firm they don't have a chance of going in

An unexpected win, when it looked like USA were in prime position to win on the 18th

Great bounce back by the Europeans, Leona's chip in was massive.

Leona's chip in could turn the tide for Europe. They are right back in it now at just 5 - 3 down and momentum in their favour now.

In these extremely intense team competitions, momentum is a huge factor. Let’s hope Europe can kick on from this afternoon’s comeback.

The last 30 minutes of action may prove crucial on Sunday.

At best it looked like a half in Leona's game. Its amazing what can happen in matcplay. Lexi getting a shank was even more unexpected than Maguire's chip in.

Leona's game looks a little off this morning so far (10th). Hopefully she can drag it back to her best for the crucial holes. I'd imagine she'll be rested this afternoon.

Yeah poor, surprised she hasn't been dropped for the afternoon.

Still not firing on all cylinders but out with Charley Hull this pm. That might fire her up, as well as the rhythm of playing your own ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,512 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

She was pushing nearly every shot. Big pushes or slices. Very surprised she's back out in the afternoon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,315 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Anyone else finding the coverage very poor? Sound off, shots being missed, commentators struggling with what's happening.

Yep, there's only 4 matches on the course. It's a travesty that so many shots are missed and the commentary team seems to have no idea what's going on. I have more of an idea than they do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,055 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

No shot-tracer either. Scores not being put up very often. Very poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

This is shaping up to be vry close heading into Sunfay, especially if Europe can win the session. Maguire 4up at the moment so hopefully finish early as say she's knackered.

Parents at it, not doing full days as its far too hilly. Buggies bringing players between green and tee so say 5 rounds be tiring

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,793 ✭✭✭coillcam

Maguire absolutely killing it today. She had three birdies in the first four holes. Just drained another on 12 for her 5th of the day.

She'll surely close this out with Hull. Another birdie putt to come on 13. The other matches are much closer and lots to play for. 2up and both 1up in the last two groups.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Got the birdie on 13 anyway but big putt for the half.

She's absolutely killing it this afternoon alright, another unbelievable shot into the 14th. But was far from killing it this morning, looked to be just off the pace all morning. It's an incredible change of form she's made since lunchtime. Just shows what an amazing competitor she is.

Norquist has been very poor throughout this weekend.

Some eagle from Maguire. Immense today.

Shaping up to be an interesting afternoon.

I heard comments to the effect that some European players were unused to the Bermuda grass -so that might have been a factor early on ...as well as understandable nerves on both sides. Level of play picked up on day 2 and I thought the overall standard was extremely good -monster putts and clutch putts were being rammed in all over the place. Looks like being a close one at this point.

    This is great viewing.

Brilliant from Europe. Absolutely clutch from hedwall, stark and ciganda to close it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,029 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Insane shots on 16 and 17 from Ciganda, you'd wonder how she wasn't picked for the opening foursomes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭big_drive

I don't agree with the rule in this or the Ryder Cup that a tie retains the cup.

Surely each one should be independent, and decided by a play off or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,954 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

You cant beat matchplay golf for excitement, that was a nailbiting finish, very enjoyable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,055 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Should be no halved matches on the final day imo. Play to a finish.

Brilliant shot into 17 by Cicanda

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,797 ✭✭✭abff

That would not necessarily resolve the overall tie situation, provided there is an even number of points between the two sides going into the singles.

Anyway, if I remember correctly, there was a tie in the President’s Cup a number of years ago and they had a tie to resolve who won. I think Greg Norman was involved, but I resisted the temptation to google it! 😎
