URL filtering on a HG658c provided by Vodafone

I've had this router for years and never had any issues. The hardware version is HG658BZV VER.A and the software is V100R001C172B237. I'm now looking to block particular websites so go to Advanced - Filter - Url Filter and entered the sites. I've tried using http and https, priority is set to 0 and the status is reject. It sometimes works the first time I try to access a site but then just allows access as normal after that. Am I missing something?

does it work if you enter blocked url directly in the browser instead accessing through the search or other site?

Try to use * in the URL block i.e : *.unwantedsite.*

No it makes no difference. I can enter it directly or click on it through google - either way the site opens.

Cached front page, can you browse within? Clear cache in browser.

Try reboot router after rule setup. verify rule still present, check functionality.

Can you post screenshot of router filtering page(mask whatever personal you have there), just want refresher on the interface and options there, have not used this router for over decade...

Here's a picture- -I've just blanked the urls I'm looking to block. I've rebooted the router and confirmed the rules remain and also cleared the browser cache on a couple of devices but still no joy. I've also tried setting the priority as 1 - 9 instead of all 0 but that made no difference.

I meant the screenshot of the page where you are actually creating new rule/ edit existing rule

Did you try to use "wild card"? i.e: https://www.FilterOut.com/*

Also, try just plain domain name , i.e : FilterOut.com or FilterOut.com/*

On my router i can have rules created and they stay there, but they need to be "enabled" to work

Cached DNS in that case then I'd reckon.

Flush the DNS on the computer "ipconfig /flushdns". Also check that the computer is using the router for DNS and not another DNS service such as 1.1.1.1, "ipconfig /all" and look for DNS servers.

Turns out this was it! Someone had put in the google dns servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) into dhcp and these were being assigned. I switched it back to 192.168.1.1. and it all works now.
