Relocated to Ireland from the US - questions re RT1 - Sole Trader registration

I am a self-employed translator with clients in the US, who relocated to Ireland January 2022. As such, I am not only unfamiliar with the Irish tax system, but also with a lot of the terminology. My apologies for any questions that might seem stupid.

I just recently registered with ROS. I know this is pretty late but I had too much fun with complex US tax situations for 2021 and 2022. Now I can fully focus on my Irish taxes. Where do I find the online TR1 form? I looked everywhere in ROS, but couldn‘t find it. I‘m happy to mail in the paper form, but read somewhere that I might be required to file everything online?

I started working in Ireland in February 2022, but arrived on Jan 8 and I have been working in the same capacity for years in the US. What date do I enter under 25. When did the business or activity commence? Do I put in my arrival date in Ireland, or the date when I actually started to accept new projects after my relocation? I assume they are not interested when I started my freelance job in the US. (Probably doesn‘t really matter anyways…)

Q27. State the expected turnover for the next 12 months: What do the next 12 months refer to? The 12 months following the date my ST activity commenced? Or the year following the date I enter uner 26. To what date will annual accounts be made up? (which will be 31. Dec of each year)?

Q28. Adviser Details: I have contcated a tax accountant firm, but they will only meet with me once I am officially registered as sole trader. Where can I enter their information later so that they can file on my behalf?

Q30. If you rent your business premises… I assume my home office does not fall under “business premises”, correct?

That‘s it. Thank you so much for your help!

Find a new accountant/tax adviser. They sound like muppets.

OK, I will tell them! 😀

Maybe they misunderstood me. I already decided to give them a call tomorrow to get that sorted. Thanks!

If you registered for ROS you should be able to register for income tax in ROS. You were working on 1st January so use 1 January as your registration date.

Home office is not rented business premises.

Expected turnover for 12 months, make an estimate based on your previous year income.

Annual accounts made up to 31 December.

I doubt the accountant will answer your call tomorrow....its Sunday 😀

LOL, I started my weekend already on Friday, so my sense if time is off.

I’ll take another look in ROS. Thanks again!
