WHIRLPOOL whirlpool 227/79 Fridge Freezer issues

I bought a brand new fridge from powercity and it was installed by them 2.5 months ago.

From the very first day, I've observed issues with the fridge

    1. ice is accumulating at the back of the fridge
    2. it's been making a loud noise every half an hour or so.

The noise is just too loud and I feel there are moving parts, and it is not just a normal noise ( I have seen and had many other fridges before!)

The driver from the powercity had a very difficult time installing the fridge and was using the hammer a lot on the fridge to fit it into the cabinet which was very annoying. He seemed very unprofessional and unqualified for the job!

I sent an email to powercity who replied and said they have sent my details to whirlpool but I was wondering who should resolve these issues? whirlpool or powercity?

Hi, ice accumulating on the rear of the fridge isn't unusual, it has been very humid recently and that humidity has to go somewhere after the door is opened. The fridge will have a defrost cycle where it should be able to clear that ice from time to time, so unless the fridge has a defective door seal and that's letting additional air into it, it's not normally something to worry about.

In relation to the noise, I got a new fridge last year and I noticed that it makes a loud popping sound roughly every 30 mins as the compressor engages, but I can tell that the popping sound has reduced over time and I don't notice it much these days. It's like a champagne bottle being opened, that's how I would describe it. Obviously we don't know what that yours sounds like but it could also be a vibration from the way it was installed...

Your contract is with Powercity and not with Whirlpool, so it's them to need to decide how to proceed.

I have a whirlpool fridge. The manual advises noises are normal, it has a diagram with lots of pictures of bees and bottles popping etc to get the message across. I must say I have never noticed mine making too much noise but I've been in others houses and their fridge sounds like a tractor when it is going, I've noticed Samsung to be the worst offenders. Sometimes I notice the fan up top inside my fridge making noise, but it's normal. Have you checked your filter is seated correctly?

I have a tall Hotpoint freezer unit too that is out in the shed and I had it in the house recently when we were getting work done. I found it very noisy from vibrations when the compressor is running, so much so, I couldnt sit in the same room and concentrate. I think it can be hit and miss if you get a noisy fridge unfortunately.

I don't know what the guy fitting it would have been doing with a hammer? Maybe bashing some bracket on your cupboard unit that was in the way and had screws stripped?

The engineer from whirlpool came to have a look and they said the noise was due to loose parts of the integrated cabinet. They added a new leg to stabilize the unit/cabinet.

The original fitter guy was using the hammer all over the place trying to force the fridge into the cabinet 🤷‍♂️
