    What are peoples favourite winter sun destinations city break or beach, taking temperature, food, things to do and see, budget into consideration

    Very difficult to separate those aspects.

    If you prioritise weather, and can't afford long-distance, the Canaries, particularly Lanzarote would be my choice. The larger Canary Islands have more to do and see, but then it also depends on what you want from a resort. Even within Lanzarote, there is huge variety in terms of nightlife, food and entertainment, between Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

    If you are looking for a city to see things in winter and don't want to be snow-bound, somewhere like Barcelona or Rome. Don't expect 25 degrees warmth in December, however.

    For myself, I have done all of the above, as well as Christmas markets and Paris for Christmas over the years. So the answer to your question is I pick whatever suits whatever priority I have at that time within whatever budget I can afford at the time.
