Gallery rifle

I’m a member in Harbour house for last few years but only shoot bench rest and clays and haven’t took part in any competitions yet. Theres training starting now for “ granet and imperial silhouettes in galley rifle “ which I want to get involved with .I’ve a couple of questions which I’m hoping some of the experienced lads here wouldn’t mind answering so that I have a better starting knowledge before rocking up to the line .

Firstly,What’s involved in these disciplines ? Ive a 10/22 in a magpul stock with a Bushnell 6-18 x50 scope .Is this rifle suitable ?Im aware there is scope and weight limits for some disciplines.

I’ve a 10/22 in magpul stock too and done my first intro to gallery shooting yesterday.

I have a Hawke 4-12x40 AO Scope and it was more than enough. I dropped my magnification down to 6’ish from memory and probably still had room to go lower. Any higher and the target was all over the place in my view.

I only done 10/20 ( I think that’s what it’s called) so shots from 25/20/15/10m.

Will from HH was taking us through the motions in our club.

One thing I noticed was that this is where weight reduction helps. I still had my bipod etc connected and I could feel it after a few cycles.

Very nice job, particularly it being your first time doing that style of shooting!

Only 2 7s and the rest 8s and better is nothing to scoff about.

But most importantly, did you enjoy it, as in the style of the match vs the scored result?

Yes, really enjoyed it. It was “exciting”, which means the government will most likely ban it or tax it in October 😂

I am really looking forward to trying it with the pistol!

Ah well they already banned practical shooting so this is the next best thing, and given its been around since 2008 mostly unchanged I can't see it going anywhere in the near future ;)

Delighted you enjoyed it though.

And as for the pistol, think the rifle but more difficult and more rewarding in equal measure.

And any practice with a pistol directly transfers over to a rifle, not vice versa, so if you make some gains with your pistol you'll see a similar improvement with rifle.

Another side benefit of using both :-D
