Vodafone Throttling/capping download speed on American purchased phone.

    Hi all,

I purchased a S23 Ultra last month in the states as I got a great deal on it.

I had done my homework prior and knew I'd have to unlock a few more operating bands to open up full coverage for Europe.

I have enabled all operating bands that are on the phone so I should be getting great speeds on 5g etc but I'm not.

Every place I go, I'm getting capped to 10Mbps. I changed my sim card in vodafone today and the guy at the counter took his phone out and did a comparison for speed. He was getting about 180Mbps and I was sitting on 10Mbps.

I am just after popping in a Gomo sim I've  lying around and I'm getting about 250Mpbs here.

I'm confident the phone is not the problem and I'm wondering would Vodafone have the IMEI capped/flagged as it's not an Irish purchased device? I had seen mention of something similar by a user on XDA.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What Vodafone plan do you have?

If it's Vodafone X plan you have speed is limited to 10Mbps.

Excellent point. I'm not sure to be honest. I'm on a red 30 day plan. About 45 euro I think. I was on a similar plan last year and remember getting about 500Mbps off my Pixel 6 Pro in Galway. I was assuming I'd get the same with this. Vodafone site is down at the moment to check my plan. Hopefully it's something as simple as this.

I’m sure it is, I have an android phone the USA aswell and I have excellent speed. Many of Vodafone’s sim only plans have a speed limit of 10MB. The higher end plans have unlimited speed so it may just be as easy as switching to one of those. The red 30 day sim only plan also has that speed limit of 10MB as far as I know!

Indeed that's what it was. I think I was on the higher plan last year when I got the higher speeds. Forgotten,I was capped at 10Mbps. I've gone back to the unlimited 5g now. Thanks for the help
