Hello. A friend of mine recently applied for an Income Protection payment through her employer. They have been off since last year & sent a late application after being reminded they could possibly get it. Sent off all Doctors reports etc & are signed out for the forseeable future. The Insurer only paid for the past while after their IME said a return is possible. This despite her being clear with the examiner she wasn't. The examiners report has a few holes in it & glosses over a few things, it even states an actual return date is not yet known or could be given. Anyway she can appeal it & was wondering how best to go about this? Are these appeals succesful or a waste of time? She is not fit for work & would like it backdated & paid until she can go back. Any help or advice welcomed. Thanks in advance.

I think this is probably beyond the scope of the forum.

Professional and possibly legal advice should be sought.

If they are in a Union try that for legal advice. Else approach company HR, they should have an interest in employee welfare. The policy will set out the conditions required for an appeal and how/to which body the appeal should be made - there is no reason to believe the appeal will not be fairly considered but a lot would depend on the findings of the 1st round of medicals and whether as is stated anything was missed/overlooked or misrepresented - nobody here can comment on that.
