Timescale for small claims process

Hi, I'm considering a small claims case against a local builder.

I appreciate there's a back and forth process where the clerk of court tries to negotiate an agreement.

How long does it normally take for such a process to begin, and assuming no agreement is reached, for the matter to be settled by the court?

Months. Three would be on the low side, and any grade of challenge adds weeks.

There is a lengthy time allowed for a response, and late responses are usually accepted too.

Thanks for that, I figured it would take a little while alright.

What do you mean by challenge, I know there's a process where both side can respond to the others claims, but is there a further challenge procedure?
