Hearing Aids

This has to be one of the greatest rip offs in the country.

Old people get checked for a hearing aid and then find out it is something like €4000 for a pair. When you consider that the top of the range Iphone is about €1200 with all the latest chips and technology, how is it €2k plus for a single hearing aid, which, by the way, are usually as much help as two cans and a piece of string.

Yes, the top of the range ones are not cheap. There is a €500 PRSI grant available per aid that most people would be eligible for which can help, and medical card holders can get them for free.

Also, I know someone who got a pair in Lidl for €20 and is happy as Larry with them.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

I am with Hidden Hearing and their hearing aids are excellent. I am however in disbelief of their price. I paid €4,000, received €1,000 PRSI.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone getting hearing aids or upgrading. There has to be good quality hearing aids in the market for half the price.

Also Insurance with Hidden Hearing for hearing aids is over €297.

There has long been a tradition that any 'medical' device or app has had a humongous mark-up. It is quite clear that €4K for a pair of hearing aids is absolute robbery.

Totally Agree, There has to be a cheaper version of hearing aids somewhere in the World. Would be interested in hearing what kind of hearing aids people use

I purchased a set of hearing aids for €300 a year ago from the website below.

Nano Rechargeable Hearing Aids - Elite Hear

Use them mainly for work purposes and very happy with them - no way was i forking out 4k for something which essentially does the same thing.

My mother got 2 aids in Specsavers. Certainly didn't cost her 4k

I sold them 2nd hand when she died.

My dad got a pair of hearing aids on his PRSI from Specsavers and had terrible problems with them and went back to an old pair he had.

Think they cost her about 2000 for the pair.

Sold them for 1000 give or take

Didn't know that people are buying used aids too. Anyway i think it makes a lot of sense to visit an - audiology clinic first before getting a first pair of aids. Buying a first time from a private person device you never tried before sounds kinda risky. What do you think guys?

That is a new one on me also. I guess it makes sense, buy new earpieces and away you go.
