What is the Nottingham of the Irish music scene?

Until fairly recent years, Nottingham wasn't exactly a famous city for spawning major music acts. Only three artists from the Nottingham urban area - Paper Lace, KWS, and LadBaby - have scored UK #1 singles to date, and artists from there in the charts have been sporadic. It's only been in more recent years that artists like Jake Bugg, London Grammar, Young T & Bugsey, Dog Is Dead, Amber Run and others have helped the scene to really take off.

So, here in Ireland, would we have a city, town or county that would be comparable to Nottingham (traditionally) in not producing that many notable music artists considering its population?

I was on rateyourmusic about a month ago and spotted this artist...seems to have done okay at the time and still gets checked out by fans of '70s folk-rock. Anyway - think he might have to go down as the biggest musical name from Drogheda

After having a look around, there are a few other singer-songwriters

Kieran Halpin (put out a good few albums)

    SJ McArdle (four albums)

    Niall Boyle (three albums)

The metal bands, Scavenger and Okus have both put out a couple of albums

After that mostly just odds and ends, though these guys seem to be going okay
