OS for old laptop?

Hi, I have a Toshiba Equium A300D-13X laptop. Spec below I think

I have pulled the old HDD out of it and stuck in a SSD. Just wondering what people would recommend as a OS? I am giving to my daughter so she can used to it for school etc. She already has iPad etc.

I was thinking something like Tiny Windows? but any other recommendations. I have put Linux on other systems but as she will probably be using Windows in school I didn't want to drift too far. It will be just for emailing etc

I would get the extra 2GB RAM it can take also, because everything will struggle on 2GB these days

ChromeOS Flex as mentioned above, Linux Mint are probably the only realistic options. Win10 will install and run with an SSD and 4GB but it won't be easy to work with.

In schools, the main computers are almost always Windows but lots only have the iPad/Chromebook as required for lessons so they can't really expect Windows + Office anymore.

Will see if I can source, only have a 32GB SSD in it now but I got a 500GB SDD for 20

quid from Amazon so will try chrome and if running well will pickup a bigger SSD as well

I guess just look for cheap office equivalents?

Libreoffice is free. The few paid for, cheaper than Microsoft, office products are all worse than Libreoffice.

If I was in my old job I would have had an padded envelope full of scrap 2GB RAM sticks of that type/speed FOC - if you know anyone working in a hardware-facing IT role they almost definitely will too. They're basically worthless.

CEX sells it for 3.50 these days (second hand) but I very much doubt its a common stock item now. (this is the exact type needed, according to the standard RAM type sites)
