Panoramic Roof - crack

I have a Skoda with a Panoramic Roof.

Noticed last week that there was a crack in it, just above where the mirror would sit in the windscreen. Its about 5 inches long. I have no idea what caused it, definetly didn't happen while driving.

    What are my options?

Because its not a 'windscreen', insurance doesn't want to cover it.

Will I have to just bite the bullet and make a full on claim and all that that entails (loosing NCB etc)?

    Can it be repaired in-situ?

A new roof is the guts of €3k apparently.
