Trying to get RTE and VM on an older tv via internet

A neighbour of mine has a very complex hdanywhere (HDbaset) system installed in her home, generally works ok but for some reason on a tv upstairs she gets picture but no sound on some channels from her sky box. A neighbour of mine has a very complex hdanywhere (HDbaset) system installed in her home, generally works ok but for some reason on a tv upstairs she gets picture but no sound on some channels from her sky box. I have tried replacing cables etc but short of a new receiver at that tv i dont know what else it could be.
She uses the tv rarely and only to watch local stations, its a neat wall mount so an aerial wont work, i was wondering about getting a cheap fire stick and sticking the rte and vm apps on, but i see that rte android tv app doesnt have live....
is there any way around this or any other idea?

The rte player does do live TV.
