Has anybody who converted - and installed some AC sockets and an inverter - had to get an electrician to sign off before insurance and/or CVRT? I was talking to an SQI the other week and he mentioned that both gas and electrics need to be signed off by a qualified installer?

He's doing his job since ultimately he has to stand over his certification of the build quality. Gas is a real problem since its almost impossible to a) find a certified fitter who has any experience of campers b) is prepared to sign off on anyone elses work since all liability transfers to him.

Find your gas fitter before you start work and consult him on what he expects if he will sign off on your work. There are detailed guidelines on what a suitable gas install entails and they are a subsection of the gas fitters guidance, they can be found online. Its very easy to make a mistake which would render your install uncertifiable and ultimately uninsurable.

I have no real experience of electrics since ours is all 12V. Any electrician should be able to sign off - but as with gas he is unlikely to be happy signing off unless he has been at least consulted from the very start.
