Hi, Looking at flying pet dog to/from Alicante from Dublin, afik Aer Lingus are the only ones that will do this; have been looking about to get an idea of prices, but aer lingus are worse than useless when questioned, will give no info on routes or pricing; have tried contacting their agents but no response.

Anyone have any experience travelling with pets to give me an idea on price?

We flew a dog from USA to Ireland with Aer Lingus. Had no issues with them but it isn't Aer Lingus directly that deal with the pets booking it was through their cargo department which I believe now is IAG Cargo. The supplied all the info on required documents etc and went smoothly.

Yeah, Aer Lingus have directed us to IAG cargo; who don't handle the shipping from Dublin... seemingly they put you in touch with other companies who do the pet transfers. Just wondering what kinda cost we're gonna be facing?

Flying a pet from Dublin to Faro on IAC Cargo (part of IAG which owns Aer Lingus) was something we considered last year. Cost was about €1,500 each way and even the. They were trying to route it on a non-direct flight. Looked into LIS on TAP which should have been much cheaper (as TAP quite a price of less than €250) but it came out at about €1,500 too when the cargo company added everything on. It used to be that you could rock up at the airport with a crate and animal and get the €250 price but a new EU provision from 2 years ago means the animals have to go the same route as bags which is not possible at Dublin outbound. However, it is possible inbound to Dublin if the departing airport has a suitable baggage handlin system.

Can you bring a small dog on the plane with you? Would the 'emotional support animal' nonsense work?

No. "Emotional support animals" have no legal standing, only properly trained service animals.
