    Hi all,

Have had an Iphone 8 for around two years and Vodafone are my provider.Yesterday evening the home screen went black and was frozen so I searched up possible solutions on google and thankfully got phone screen working again without having to resort to a factory reset as I have a couple of thousand photos on the phone and didn't want to lose them.I didn't drop or damage the phone in anyway before the screen became frozen and black.

Couple of questions- 1- Should I be worried this black frozen screen reaction might happen again sooner rather than later?........ I have a 200 GB Icloud account where my phone photos are currently linked for storage so that is reassuring.I am due an upgraded phone but to be honest have no real interest in getting one of the newer larger iphone because I farm and would find it difficult to mind it while out working. The iphone 8 fits easily into your trousers pocket.

2-Is there anything I can do to prevent the likelihood of the phone screen becoming unresponsive or going black again?......for example......would it help to free up some more memory storage by deleting some of the Apps or games on it (Kids have lots of them on it!).....

Thanks for any replies or advice.

It was probably just a glitch. Now that the phone is working, you have received your fair warning to back up your photos. You have icloud backup but I would be also backing them up to a portable hard drive or computer.

I think you should just upgrade. You'll adapt to new size quickly and it will still fit comfortably in trouser pocket.

Size is not that much bigger as larger screen size is mostly replacing large bezel.

An iPhone 8 is very old at this stage and is bound to have issues like you're experiencing and may get worse.

Just back everything up and you should be ok. I assume that its up to date s/w wise. 200GB cloud is pretty good. Maybe spend time getting rid of some junk. I tend to do this now and again...
