Hi all, does anyone know the process for managing car repairs as a result of an incident with a Bus Eireann bus, when it's their fault?

Short version, bus taking a turn misjudged it, caught our (stationary) car. Not a big incident but will need some relatively significant repairs. Guards came, driver admitted liability

We've contacted our insurance, they made a note but told us to deal with BE

Contacted BE and they gave us contact details of who to speak to. As of yet (two working days) we've not been able to get a reply

Obviously we'll keep trying, and I'm sure we'll get them this week, but I was just curious in advance about how they handled these sort of things. We know they're insurance exempt, so they'll be looking after it. Will they just tell us to sort it and send quotes and/or invoices? Or will they want to take our car and deal with it on their terms? Are they easy to deal with, basically?

If anyone's been here before it would be great to hear how you got on

    Thanks

Quiet part of the forum 😋

Just in case anyone stumbles across this in the future, our experience was actually really good

BE asked is to get a quote and email it to them. They sent an independent assessor to verify the work needed. They then paid us directly, pretty quickly, and we sorted everything with the garage ourselves

thank god, had a little tip last year from a waste company, they put up a little bit of a fight, minor damage, but still cost almost a grand, probably wouldnt have normally bothered, damage was almost invisible, but their resistances just caused me to persist, job done now....some companies just dont give a sh1t......

Nail them for everything you can if they taking the piss. That said, a week is not a long time in these kind of scenarios so dont panic yet.

Are you in a hire car or is your car still fit to drive.

Still driving got garage quote last week almost E 4000 not including hire car which we will require. This happened four weeks ago. Had to contact local TD to put pressure on them. It's a nightmare as far as I can see it's a hit and run as driver did not leave name or insurance details. Lucky there was a witness who gave us details and photos of the incident

What exactly is a TD going to do for you that you can't do yourself?

did you get sorted in the end? I’m in a similar situation with BE. Contacted TFI today and was told to contact CIE - is that route you took? Will do so on Monday just curious to know the process.

Yep, we had a similar: you're dealing with the State Claims Agency - very straightforward.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

in fairness a TD representing you is essentially their secretary typing a letter they scan over and sign (if even)

Sometimes that’s enough to get something moving along. They are elected representatives and why not ask them for assistance if necessary? Don’t really understand why this person is being chastised for doing so.

Even if it amounts to nothing if it makes them feel better so what like.
