TCO Civil Service

    Hi all,

I've recently been offered a 16 week fixed term contract as a TCO within The Corporate Enforcement Authority, via a TCO Competition for the Civil Service which I applied for through Publicjobs.ie. I've recently finished a QQI Level 5 in Office Administration, though I'm just somewhat on the nervous side as to what to expect. The agency itself seems rather complex looking from the outside and to be brutally honest I hadn't a great deal of knowledge even in regards of its existence up until today.

I know I'm going in there surrounded by people who are much more educated than I, and I just can't help but feel that with the assessment I completed online, and the information which I gave, along with the brief 15 minute interview, that I could have mistakenly been put into a position in which will probably be over my capability. I could be just over-thinking this though. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Any input would be much appreciated.

You will be fine..from my experience working in the civil service is like a jog saw puzzle without the overall picture. Which I realise now is impossible to train. You will get training but need to piece the puzzle together over time. Biggest advice any doubts...ASK! much preferred to giving the wrong information out

    Hi,

    Came across this post.

From my experience, it very much depends on where you will be placed in a job. I have worked as a TCO in the civil service during COVID times, which was, extremely pressurised, you receive all training on the job, with very little time given to actually take in the information. You will never arrive in the job with any previous work experience that matches that role, it's all specialised and specifically tailored to that job.

Then I worked as a HSE clerical officer, a varied role for each position. Unlike the civil service, a lot of the work is very similar across a lot of departments, and if you can manage one role adequately, you can learn everything on the job. Again, unlike in the civil service HSE departments have a much smaller staff complement and you won't be treated like you are just a number.
