Canadian Maple Flooring

Hi all,

I bought the flooring from a PE hall about 6 years ago. Finally have started construction on our extension of our house and the idea was to use this flooring for our house.

The flooring was stored in a standard 40ft container, its always been damp inside. Condensation water on roof etc. Kingspan sheeting used on floor and on the sides of the stack of the timber. Covered with plastic.

The timber has black mould on it, we are planning to plane the pieces of timber, is there anything we need to treat the timber with?

Yes it would be easier to put down laminate flooring but we want to salvage the Canadian maple.

how deep does the mould go? if inside, i would not think you'd need to treat it?

I've planed the piece in the pictures by hand just see how deep the black goes. I reckon I'll have to remove around 5mm off of the surface of the flooring so that the black isn't as visible anymore.

you have a thicknesser?

i was asking because i was thinking it might have been easier to sand it off after you lay them - but that's not ideal as you'd only be able to take the mould off on one side.

you could try oxalic acid on i to bleach out the stain it a powder and you mix about 2 teaspoons in a pint of hot water and brush it on

I had similar with oak but not as bas as yours I'd say. Anyway it sanded out ok after fitting.
