Honda Civic 2014 (9th gen) passenger airbag SRS check system light on

The SRS check system light is on in my Honda Civic 2014 (9th gen). It started out intermittent a few weeks back but is now more or less permanent. I used a scanner and the code is 12-10 Permanent DTC "Open in the front passengers airbag first inflator". If I reset the code it just comes back. My scanner does not show live SRS data, unfortunately.

I took out the glovebox, disconnected the yellow airbag connector and gave it a spray with contact cleaner, no improvement. The connector appears undamaged.

Any suggestions for anything else I could try at home? All sggestions would be much appreciated.

Failing that, what do people think: is that something that a good indepenmdent mechanic should be able to diagnose and repair or would I be better off taking it to the dealer?

Any connectors attached to the underneath of the passenger seat that may have been dislodged?

That's usually the problem. Take the connectors off and clean them down with a bit of sandpaper. Usually fixes it.If that doesn't work cut the block connector off and hardwire using solder and shrink wrap or insulating tape.

    Thanks @newmember2 and @Hellrazer

There are three connectors under the passerner seat - one is for the belt buckle switch and another is for the side airbag inflator - those throw their own codes when I turn on the ignition with them unplugged. (DTC 61-10 and 31-10)

The third connector seems to go to the weight sensor in the bottom of the seat - that does not throw any code (other than the original 12-10 Permanent DTC "Open in the front passengers airbag first inflator") when it is disconnected. I'm not sure if that is significant? The connector itself seems undamaged and the wires going into it look good too.

I'm beginning to think my scanner is mixing up the driver and passenger side.

The original error was 12-10 Permanent DTC "Open in the front passengers airbag first inflator"

but the other two errors (when I disconnected teh connectors in the passenger seat) were:

31-10 Open in the drivers side airbag

    and

51-10 Open in the drivers side seat belt buckle

So disconnected connectors in the passenger seat give errors that mention drivers side, makes me wonder if the original error is actually on the drivers side.

just for the record it looks like my scanner cant tell the difference between right hand drive and left hand drive cars (at least in the SRS module) which is not very helpful.

Anyway since it seemed that the issue was actually on the drivers side, I opened a little panel on the bottom of the steering wheel which allowed access to the airbag connector, disconnected it, spray of contact cleaner, put it back together and all seems well now (fingers crossed.) The connector looked 100% fine btw
