Illness benefit after maternity leave

    Hiya a friend of mine was on her full maternity leave and is due back to work the in a few days, she got a sick cert off her doctor for the full month as she dosent want to return to work in that field anymore, while she's on illness benefit can she hand in her notice and go straight on another welfare payment straight away for a few months until she starts a college course next year?

    If "your friend" quits her job voluntarily she will most likely be disqualified from Jobseekers for 9 weeks. (They will check with the employer for the reason why the employment ceased.)

    But if she will not planning on job seeking anyway, or is unavailable for work due to her child caring responsibility, she does not qualify for a jobseekers payment.

    If she is parenting alone, she may qualify for a one parent family payment.
