Installing a new SSD storage drive?

Apart from actually attaching it to the motherboard, any additional modifications or tech knowledge required?

Or does the computer simply recognize the drive and auto-updates itself?

I've purchased the WD Blue storage drive and the tech will attach it, just curious if there's anything else I need to request, software updates etc?

Edit: There's a slot for the addition of another storage drive. It's not actually replacing the original storage.

Will this be replacing a drive or adding to the storage of the computer? If it's just adding to the storage there will be nothing else to do. If it's replacing an existing drive that already has the operating system on it then the operating system will have to be reinstalled or a image of the old drive will have to be copied to the new drive.

In a fairly modern PC this should be very straightforward, lots of online guides and You Tube vids to assist. Once all connected you need to boot up an install you r desired Operating System, be that Windows or one of the distributions of Linux, where you’ll get more online guides to do that. Presumably you are not cloning from another drive as a replication of an existing drive, again lots of online guides to help you do that.

You need a Windows license to install that commercially produced OS, but most Linux distributions are completely free, and when you get familiar IMO it’s extremely easy to use and very stable.

of course you will then have to set up the UEFI boot order on your computer, again google the lots of resources.

Meant to mention though it's additional storage, not replacing the original storage drive.

There's a slot of the laptop motherboard for another SSD.

So all I do is slot that in, and the computer will automatically recognize it and update - it's good for use immediately? Or are there additional software updates to be performed so as to made the addition SSD useable?

Adding storage to the original, not replacing it.

So no software updates or something to get the machine to recognize the new drive?

If you're using windows you'll need to select a file system and drive letter (assume you want to mount it to a letter) as well as format it. All this is done from disk management. Once you open disk management, windows should notify you that a new drive was found.
